“Across time, Western womanswear has told the story of the woman as object rather than subject in her own narrative. An underappreciated side effect of this deeply embedded social practice is the overwhelming defining power collectively given by all genders to clothing and appearance.
It was decided that not only does a woman need to look and behave as a woman to maintain her social value, but that everyone should look and behave as the social orfer mandates to maintain their social value as well.
“Clothing the Conscious” explores the modern experience of a reclaimed relationship with self and identity through a reframing if clothing and the recounting of personal experience.
While great leaps have been made in departing from the marginalizing fashions of past cultures, awareness and intentionality are still required today to cultivate the control we individually and collectively have over our narratives”
